To the concerned people of Madagascar

Last week I was asked for my reaction to the illegal trial that sentenced me to hard labour for life.

The abuse of our legal system continues. Facts are of little importance to the illegal regime of Andry Rajoelina, and sadly the our once independent legal system has been corrupted.

For the past 18 months since the tragic events of 7th February, 2009, I have supported the proposal for an independent fact finding enquiry. I have asked for both the EU and SADC to conduct this enquiry but the regime of Rajoelina has prevented this enquiry.

Why ? Was it because the majority of those who died on 7th February, appear to have been shot from behind. Was it because the front of the Presidential Palace was pop-marked with bullet holes suggesting that the shots were fired from outside the Presidential compound – not from inside. Was it because I was not in the Presidential Palace at the time of the shootings?

For as long as this illegal regime remains clinging to power, the truth will remain hidden. The people of Madagascar need to be told the complete truth. When this happens, investment to rebuild our economy will flow. But until then – nothing.

Tao anatin’izay 18 volana lasa taorian’ireny raharaha mampalahelo ny 7 febroary 2009 ireny, dia tsy nitsahatra nanohana ny sosokevitra mangataka ny fanadihadiana mahaleotena hitadiavàna ny marina tamin’iny raharaha iny ny tenako. Nangataka tamin’ny vondron’ny firenena mikambana eoropeana sy ny SADEC aho hanao ny fanadihadiana mitambatra momba iny raharaha iny saingy nosakanan’ny fitondràna tsy ara-dalàna tarihan’ingahy Rajoelina ankehitriny izany fanadihadiana mahaleotena izany.

Inona no antony handavàny izany ? Noho ny fahitàna ny ankamaroan’ireo namohy ny ainy tamin’ny 7 febroary iny voatifitra avy an-damosiny ve ? Sa noho ny fahitàna fa ny rindrin’ny lapam-panjakana Ambohitsorohitra ahitàna miharihary ireo diam-bala maro avy amin’ny tifitra avy any ivelan’ny vavahadin’ny lapa ? Sa kosa noho ny tenako izay tsy tao anaty lapam-panjakana tamin’ireny fitifirana ireny ?

Raha mbola mifikitra amin’io fitondrana tsy ara-dalana io ireo nandroba fahefàna ireo dia tsy ho hita ny marina. Manan-jo sy mila ampifantarina ny tena marina momba iny raharaha iny ny Vahoaka malagasy. Raha izay no tanteraka dia hiverina ny famatsiana avy any ivelany hamerina ny fampandrosoana ny toe-karena.

Au peuple malgache plongé dans l’inquiétude,

La semaine dernière, on m’a demandé ma réaction après le jugement illégal qui m’a condamné aux travaux forcés à vie.

Les abus sur notre système judiciaire continuent. Les faits n’ont que peu d’importance aux yeux du régime illégal d’Andry Rajoelina, et malheureusement notre système judiciaire, autrefois indépendant, a été corrompu.

Au cours des 18 derniers mois depuis les événements tragiques du 7 février 2009, j’ai soutenu la proposition d’une enquête indépendante pour établir les faits. J’ai demandé à l’Union Européenne et à la SADC de mener conjointement cette enquête mais le régime de Rajoelina a empêché cette enquête.

Pourquoi ? Était-ce parce que la majorité de ceux qui ont péri le 7 février semblent avoir été victimes de tirs par derrière. Était-ce parce que la façade du Palais Présidentiel présente des traces de balles suggérant que les tirs venaient de l’extérieur de l’enceinte du Palais – et non de l’intérieur. Était-ce parce que je n’étais pas dans le Palais Présidentiel au moment des tirs ?

Tant que ce régime illégal continuera à s’accrocher au pouvoir, la vérité restera cachée. Le peuple malgache a besoin qu’on lui dise toute la vérité. Quand cela arrivera, les investissements reviendront reconstruire notre économie. Mais avant cela, rien ne se passera.
